Preparation of porous titania particles via hot water or hydrothermal treatment of porous hydrous titania and their photocatalytic ability

The synthesis of porous titania microparticles with high specific surface area and sufficient photocatalytic activity is an important but challenging task. To this aim, micron-sized particles exhibiting comparable to that nanoparticles were prepared in study via hydrothermal treatment hydrous particles. First, amorphous hydrolysis titanium alkoxide followed by partial dissolution the particle soaking ethanol. Then, dried at 75 °C (Dry particles) without drying (Wet respectively crystallized using hot water (<100 °C) or treatment. Both types anatase having a mesoporous structure preserved spherical outer shape under was controllable tuning temperature, especially case Wet from showed better photodegradation toward Evans blue UV irradiation than those Dry particles, which attributable distortion crystallites In fact, despite their micron-order size, ability hydrothermally treated 160 for 24 h AEROXIDE® TiO2 P25.
